Frequently Asked Questions About The Shed
What is The Shed? |
The Shed is finally here—Telluride’s long-awaited hangout spot made just for teens. Right in the heart of town, it’s your space to chill, connect, create, and be yourself—totally safe, welcoming, and substance-free.
When is The Shed open?
Come hang out at the Shed anytime after school—open on weekdays until 8pm and 10pm on Fridays.
How old do I have to be to hang out in The Shed?
The Shed will operate primarily as a High School hang out, with the invitation to Middle School students to join in on "Middle School Mondays".
How did The Shed come to be?
Our region has a long history of providing youth hangout spaces, but past efforts have been short-lived due to budget constraints and facility closures:
- Pre-1994: Spaces like the Quonset Hut, The Underground, and Next Generation served as informal youth hubs.
- 1994: Youth Link was established, followed by a skatepark in 2001.
- 2011: The recession forced the closure of these spaces, leaving a void.
- 2017: CTC and local youth began advocating for a permanent youth space.
- 2019–2020: A temporary space at Telluride Ski and Snowboard Club (TSSC) was created but closed due to COVID-19.
- 2020: The Town of Telluride considered incorporating a youth hangout in the Town Park Warming Hut project, but cost overruns ($1.35 million above estimates) made it infeasible.
How is The Shed funded?
The Shed is primarily funded in collaboration by the Town of Telluride, the Town of Mountain Village, and San Miguel County. In addition, organizations such as Telluride Bluegrass Festival, SBG Productions/Blues and Brews and Just For Kids Foundation have generously donated to the project. Who is in charge of operations?
Operations and programming for The Shed will be overseen by Communities That Care (CTC), a nonprofit under the Tri-County Health Network. CTC will work in partnership with other youth-centered organizations, such as True North Youth Program, One to One Mentoring, San Miguel Resource Center, Young Life and more. Youth are at the center of our operational model, with direction on programming and usage from our Youth Advisory Board.
What will it look like in the summer? On the weekends?
